STORY OF THE WEEK**<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Aaron Rokeach was known for his tremendous humility.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Once, as he was getting into a taxi, he turned to his students with a smile.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;See how a person has to bend down to get into a taxi?<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Life is like that too.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to get anywhere &#8211; you have to be willing to bend down.<\/p>\n<p>To lower yourself.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the only way.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>3. AND ABRAHAM SAID TO LOT, PLEASE LET THERE NOT BE A DISPUTE BETWEEN US&#8230; (13:8)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one of the so-called little lessons for life that we learn from Abraham.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s bigger than we think.<\/p>\n<p>Something that\u2019s really obvious to us.  But somehow it\u2019s the obvious things that we tend to forget.<\/p>\n<p>Like how it doesn\u2019t necessarily matter whose fault it is.<\/p>\n<p>And it doesn\u2019t always matter if it will cost me a little.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe some inconvenience.  Time.  Or money.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; Avoiding an argument is worth a lot.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a great quote that captures the idea:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apologizing doesn&#8217;t neccsarily mean that I was all wrong and you were all right. It means that I value our relationship more than my ego.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4. A DEEPER LOOK<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s something interesting in this week&#8217;s story about Abraham.<\/p>\n<p>He doesn&#8217;t just take care of his guests. He \u201cruns towards them\u201d. He \u201churries to do it.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>The Torah stresses that he did his acts of kindness quickly.<\/p>\n<p>On one level it\u2019s very practical \u2013 and very important \u2013 advice.<\/p>\n<p>You have a good deed you want to? Great!<\/p>\n<p>Do it quickly! <\/p>\n<p>Because you never know what will happen if you delay. <\/p>\n<p>Things happen.  Distractions arise.  <\/p>\n<p>Life gets in the way!<\/p>\n<p>And if you don\u2019t hurry, it may never get done.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 The Jewish mystics explain it on a deeper level.<\/p>\n<p>G-d isn\u2019t a physical being. He is completely unlimited by space.<\/p>\n<p>And unlimited by time.<\/p>\n<p>Because both time and space are functions of the physical world.  Not the spiritual.<\/p>\n<p>We humans? We are physical beings. And from that perspective we\u2019re limited by time and space.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s more to us.<\/p>\n<p>We also possess a neshama.  A G-d like soul.<\/p>\n<p>And every mitzvah we do, is an attempt to be more spiritual.<\/p>\n<p>And that is why Jewish tradition emphasizes the idea of running to do a mitzvah.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an attempt to be &#8220;above time&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder of how G-d like we really are &#8211; and should strive to be.<\/p>\n<p>5. THE REAL MIRACLE WATER<\/p>\n<p>A man went to a famous Kabbalist in the Israeli city of Safed.  He had heard that the Rabbi had \u2018miracle water.\u2019  Water that the Rabbi blessed and was supposed to help people deal with their challenges.  Especially, it was said, in terms of their relationships.<\/p>\n<p>He told the Rabbi that he had a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s my marriage.  Somehow, we don\u2019t have \u2018shalom bayit\u2019 &#8211; peace and harmony in our home.  It seems like we\u2019re always arguing.<\/p>\n<p>I really need some of that \u2018holy water\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Rabbi said the water could help.  And gave him a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>The man asked if there were any special instructions.  Any special way to take it or deep thoughts he should have.<\/p>\n<p>The Rabbi smiled.  \u2018Yes.  Here\u2019s what you do.<\/p>\n<p>Next time you see that you are about to say something you will probably regret, quickly take a drink of the water.  <\/p>\n<p>But do not swallow it yet.<\/p>\n<p>Keep it in your mouth.  Hold it there.
