\nThat it\u2019s not enough to just do what\u2019s right.
\nIt\u2019s important to make sure nothing we do even looks improper.
\nWe shouldn\u2019t say: It doesn\u2019t matter what other people think.
\nWhat my actions look like to them.
\nAs long as I know that what I\u2019m doing is right.
\nThe Torah says no.
\nWhy?
\nBecause what we do impacts others.
\nOur children. Friends. Even strangers.
\nPeople see how we act – and it can affect their commitment and behavior.
\n\u2026 So whether we actually do something wrong.
\nOr it just looks that way.
\nThe bottom line is the same.
\nPeople may learn from what they see us do.
\nAnd that\u2019s also part of our responsibility.
\n? Rabbi Aaron Kotler was walking in Jerusalem.
\nAlong the way, there were a number of poor people asking for charity.
\nAnd he gave something to each of them.
\nExcept for one.
\nA full block later, he hesitated, turned around and walked back to give him some money.
\nA student who was with him, asked him to explain. And he did.
\n‘At first I passed by. Because I already gave that man charity this morning.
\nBut then I thought about it.
\nAnd realized that someone may have seen me pass by.
\nAnd would think that I didn’t want to give him at all.
\nMaybe I knew something bad about him.
\nAnd the person who saw me might also not give.
\nWhich would be wrong.
\nSo I went back and gave the man again’.<\/p>\nSTORY OF THE WEEK<\/h4>\n
\nSuddenly a huge wave came and carried him out to sea.
\nThe woman was totally helpless, and panicked.
\nShe called out to G-d in desperation, \u201cPlease, I beg You, give me back my child!\u201d
\nSuddenly, a huge wave appeared. And deposited the child. Safe and sound.
\nShe hugged and kissed her son, and with tremendous feeling, thanked G-d.
\nThen she looked down at her son. And addressed G-d again.
\n\u201cHe was wearing a hat.\u201d
\n… We have so much to be thankful for.
\nLet\u2019s not ask for the hat!
